About Kyle

Greetings! My name is Kyle, and I have 3 years of experience teaching 3rd grade and 3 years of experience teaching test prep for standardized exams. I am a New York State certified teacher and received my Master's in general and special elementary education from Touro College. I attended Wesleyan University for undergrad, where I majored in sociology and psychology. As a teacher, I love to see the joy my students receive from learning and mastering concepts. My goal as a teacher is to have my students internalize that through hard work they can accomplish their goals. It is amazing to see my students realize their potential and grow as people and learners!

I tutor math and English test prep for standardize exams such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, GED/TASC, ISEE/SSAT/SHSAT and the NYS Regents exams. I also provide tutoring for math through algebra 1 and English through high school. As a tutor, I set clear, actionable and transferable goals that enable students to make real growth. I am patient, reliable, personable and love to teach!

Over the past three years, I have taught 3rd grade math and literature that is aligned with the New York State common core standards. I also have prepared my third graders to succeed on the New York State math and ELA exams. Over the past three years, I have gotten over 95% of my students to pass the common core NYS math Exam and over 90% of my students to pass the common core NYS ELA exam.

In addition to the common core tests, I also tutored multiple exams for a test prep company. Those exams included the NYS gifted and talented test, Hunter admissions test, NYS regents and ISEE. My experience teaching third grade and teaching test prep has provided me a level of expertise with preparing students for standardized exams.

Contact me any time, and I will get back to you within one day. We can discuss scheduling and customizing our lessons to suit your needs. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve your academic goals!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The ACT Math section is broken up into six sections: pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry." I assess my students' strengths and weaknesses in each of these sections to prioritize where to begin studying. Additionally, I provide students with transferable strategies that help them with all content on the test. I believe everyone can improve their score if they learn strategies to tackle the questions on the test.

Common Core

I am a certified teacher and have taught third grade at a public charter school for the last 3 years. The schools curriculum is aligned to the common core, so I am familiar with the standards that a student needs to master to be successful in elementary school. I also have a Masters in elementary special and general education. While acquiring this masters, I learned about how the common core standards build off each other from kindergarten through high school to ensure college readiness. I have a breadth of knowledge on the trajectory of the standards and as well as how to assess mastery of the common core standards.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher and have taught third grade at a public charter school for the last 3 years. The school's curriculum is aligned to the Common Core, so I am familiar with the standards that a student needs to master to be successful in elementary school. I also have a Master's in elementary special and general education. While acquiring this master's and teaching third grade, I developed familiarity with the social, emotional and academic needs of elementary school aged children. I will use my knowledge of the Common Core elementary school standards and my experience teaching third grade to guide my tutoring of elementary subjects.

Phonics

I have worked with a variety of readers and have gained expertise in assessing a student's area of struggle and prioritizing their next step. As a teacher, I lead reading groups daily and informally assess my students as readers. I also have helped my students develop their phonemic awareness to grow as readers. I plan to use the strategies I've learned as a teacher to help the students I tutor develop their phonemic awareness. I am a certified teacher and have taught third grade at a public charter school for the last 3 years.

SAT Math

The SAT Math section is broken up into four main areas: "Number and Operations;" "Algebra and Functions;" "Geometry and Measurement;" and "Data Analysis, Statistics, and Probability."I assess my students strengths and weaknesses in each of these sections to prioritize where to begin studying. Additionally, I provide students with transferable strategies that help them with all content on the test. I believe everyone can improve their score if they learn strategies to tackle the questions on the test.

Study Skills

I am a certified teacher and have taught third grade at a public charter school for the last 3 years. I have taught a variety of learners, so I have experience providing students with individualized feedback. Additionally, I have expertise in setting individualized goals and prioritizing next steps for my students. As a teacher, I assess my students as learners and determine which study skills will best set them up for success. Reading comprehension, note taking, stress management, time management, testing taking and memorization are some of the study skills I can help you develop.

Good with children

My daughter Abby had her first tutoring with Kyle on Saturday. Kyle was very patient and Abby really opened up to him and enjoyed her math tutoring (Abby DID NOT want to have a tutor). He also worked with my nephew Micael who has a speech impediment. Again, Kyle was very patient and worked to meet Micael's needs. I really recommend Kyle to those of you looking for a tutor for your elementary st
