About Marila

I have a Masters from The City College of New York and a degree in graphic design from University of Puerto Rico School of Visual Arts and Design. I'm a 26-year-old female with a true passion for the Arts, Graphic Design and the Spanish Language. I love to teach! Love to meet new people and spend time learning and developing projects together!

I have been tutoring for five years now and have had great success with my students, ranging from middle school to college-age, and non-traditional students. I began tutoring by helping other students in my high school classes. In college, I worked as a private Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Indesign tutor with the Image and Graphic Design Department. I was then hired by a non-profit to help fellow students be more creative and express themselves. In graduate school, I’ve worked with different clubs to help them create better advertisements for their events. I’ve also worked as a T.A. providing extra feedback for my Advance Type II Students.

I prefer one-on-one tutoring and enjoy engaging my students with fun and challenging creative challenges.I like to apply Art to real world situations to allow my students to fully understand the relevance and necessity of knowing and using creative solutions in their everyday lives.

Please contact me about any questions you may have!
I look forward to working with you to reaching your GPA and test score goals!

Vocabulary

I have helped dozens of students succeed both in person and online. I have 3 years of classroom teaching experience along with 6 years of tutoring experience, both in a range of environments with a range of student backgrounds and abilities.

My approach centers around encouraging students to share what they already know and build on that knowledge. Even if they think they don't know much, I ask them to speculate and refine their knowledge from that point. This approach helps with increase confidence, highlight and correct errors and weaknesses in understanding, and build true mastery -- and a feeling of mastery -- of the material.

I am also a firm believer in learning by doing -- natural for mathematics, of course, where we can work through problem sets. That approach takes on slightly different forms with other subjects, but always centers around the student leading the work, with me assisting and supporting.
