Hofstra University (Philosophy)
King's College London (Master's)
This past year I graduated with my Master's Degree from King's College London. I studied Bioethics in the department of Social Science, Health and Medicine there. Over the past few years, I have accrued a wealth of experience in several different areas, both professionally and academically. I studied philosophy and pre-medical requisites at Hofstra University where I served as a writing tutor to my peers in several subjects. I have also studied and practiced in the field of emergency medicine, as well as worked as an audio engineer and session musician at a recording studio and proofread legal documents at a law office among holding various other professional positions.
My goal is to effectively communicate all of the tools that each student requires to excel at their given field. It is important to not only gain knowledge, but also proficiency to take that knowledge and turn it into comprehension. No matter what the subject, I will help to both grapple with the more difficult aspects as well as cement the fundamentals to create a strong proficiency and succeed academically.
Part of my philosophy education encompasses the study of both symbolic and rhetorical logic. I understand the basic language and argument building instruments that create the foundation of all coherent ideas. I have facility with each of the fundamental elements that comprise the study of logic and can communicate in understandable terms the concepts behind syllogisms, proofs, and other aspects of logic.
I have an undergraduate degree in philosophy, as well as a graduate degree in a field relating to philosophy. My specialty is moral philosophy, although I also have a comprehensive knowledge of other areas such as Pre-Socratic philosophers, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, Medieval philosophers, enlightenment era philosophy, as well as many contemporary philosophers. I have studied epistemology and metaphysics in addition to having studied ethics in great detail. The field I am most proficient in is contemporary bioethics, although other branches of moral philosophy are also well within my wheelhouse.
I have been playing guitar for nearly fifteen years, and I have studied music and songwriting throughout my experience. I also play several other instruments. My experience in songwriting extends over a spectrum of contribution and overall composition. I have held professional positions as an in-house studio musician as well as performed in many original bands and cover projects that perform custom arrangements.
I have served as a proofreader both in college and in my professional life. In college I proofread papers for peers in fields such as English, philosophy, history, and music. I have also worked as a proofreader in an migration law office that issues education and work experience equivalency evaluations on behalf of clients to the Department of Homeland Security. I have an eye for detail and a sense for structure, grammar, and content.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions whatsoever! I have a wide range of topics with which I am able to provide assistance, and I will work with you to really help you understand the core concepts and be able to extrapolate this information into an overall proficiency in the subject that we work on together. I am flexible and I can work with you to schedule lessons that will allow for convenience in your otherwise busy week. This past year I graduated with my Master's Degree from King's College London. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been playing guitar for 13 years, and I have been to many clinics such as The National Guitar Workshop, and have taken lessons from three different qualified teachers. I taught an introductory guitar class at a middle school while I was in high school, and I have given private lessons in the past. I have also been employed at a recording studio as a session musician.
I have a degree in philosophy and logic is one of the requisites for a philosophy degree. I have completed courses in symbolic logic as well as used logic to represent coherent arguments in other areas of philosophy. This also extends into my graduate career as far as it pertains to moral philosophy, which was one of the main focuses.
I have received some instruction in the form of education from college music courses and various clinics. I also have extensive experience in both writing solo pieces and coordinating compositions with other musicians. I have a catalog of original songs written in a few different genres, including rock, and jazz, and I have composed backing tracks for hip hop and R&B artists in the music studio at which I was employed. I have also read and researched the subject independently.
