Dutch: Interior Architecture/Art Academy (Architecture)
I came to New York as a young Dutch Architect to start a family and a new job at an Artist's Foundation that practiced experimental architecture. I have been managing a small architect's office and I have taught design fundamentals to first year students at the NY Institute of Technology and a Drawing Class to Architecture students at Parsons School of Design.
I taught my daughter Dutch from the moment she was born and I continue teaching her. I love both the English and Dutch languages and the differences and similarities. I get along with people and I like working one on one or in small teams.
What makes me an outstanding Dutch tutor is of course my native Dutch background and my being in touch with both cultures on a regular basis. Having a 14 year old daughter who was born in Holland but who has grown up in New York, provides me with first-hand knowledge of the challenging and fruitful experience of living with two cultures at the same time.
I have experience in teaching students the basic principles and pleasures of architectural design. I also have office experience working with assistants on architectural projects. My work environment has been characterized by a playfulness and an urge for discovering new ways to design a meaningful and innovative kind of architecture focused on promoting and enhancing human life and well being.
Email me for an appointment to have a short in-person conversation so that from both ends we can see if we are a good match and make some plans accordingly. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a masters degree as an interior architect at the Art-Academy in Groningen, the Netherlands, as well as a masters Degree in Architecture at the Amsterdam Academy of Bouwkunst.
I have worked in New York for 16 years as a project manager and designer with a firm that specializes in experimental design. I have taught Design at NY Institute of Technology and Drawing at Parsons School of Design.
