About Julia

Hello parents and prospective students!

I am a School Social Worker in an elementary school. My job includes evaluating students to determine their eligibility for special education services, as well as providing at-risk counseling to students. Further, I’m a member of several committees at my school, including the Child Study Team and School Implementation Team. As a member of these teams, I collaborate with teachers, administration, and school psychologists, to determine different strategies and services that should be provided to individual students to help them progress academically and socially. Due to my work in the education field, I know that each student learns differently and may require additional supports outside of the classroom.

As a tutor, I am eager to help students (of all ages) make meaningful progress, improve their confidence, complete assignments, and grasp course material. I have been tutoring since the age of 16 years old, across a multitude of subjects and ages. As a peer tutor in high school, I tutored other middle and high school students in pre-algebra and algebra. In college, I tutored several elementary school students in a variety of subject areas, including ELA, math, science, and social studies. Further, throughout graduate school, I peer-tutored graduate students by assisting them with research, analysis, and editing scientific research papers.

I attended Brandeis University (class of 2010) for my undergraduate degree, where I studied Psychology and Health: Science, Society, and Policy. Soon thereafter, I obtained my Masters of Science in Social Work at Columbia University (class of 2013).

I want to make learning fun, enjoyable, and as stress-free as possible! I look forward to working with a variety of students, and am eager to help students acquire new skills and gain better access to their education. I encourage you to contact me with any questions and/or if you would like a copy of my resume.

I look forward to hearing from you!
Julia

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
