About Matt

I have an aerospace engineering degree and tutored physics a bit in college. Since then, I have worked 10 years as an engineer and have earned my Professional Engineer certification. I received an A in Physics and AP Physics in high school, got a 5 (the highest score) on both parts of the Physics C AP Exam, 800 on the Physics SAT II exam, and an A in Modern Physics in college (my high school work exempted me from Physics I-III in college).

As an engineer, I worked extensively with Microsoft Excel and VBA, as well as trained new people in our group. My current job with an insurance company deals largely with developing applications in Excel/VBA, and I occasionally do freelance work with it also.

When I left engineering, before I programmed professionally, I moved into actuarial science where I worked as an analyst for a year. I have passed exams P/1, FM/2, and MFE/3F with grades 7, 6, and 8 respectively.

A solid understanding of the basics, while not belaboring every possible approach to the subject, is what allows the fastest way to long-term growth of knowledge and skills. So if you want to get a firm understanding of your subject so you can ace the test or get ahead in your job, then message me!!!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Actuarial Science

I have worked for a year as an actuarial analyst in the commercial auto line. I have passed three exams, P/1, FM/2, and MFE/3F. My scores on those exams were 7, 6, and 8 respectively.

Algebra 1

I did well in algebra in school and have used often. As an engineer a strong foundation including algebra was essential to my education. It is a math discipline that is second nature to me by now.

Mechanical Engineering

I have worked for over a decade as an engineer. My degree is in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I hold a Professional Engineer license in mechanical engineering.

Microsoft Excel

I am currently working as an Excel developer both in a day job, and as a consultant in a side job. I have over 10 years of experience with Excel and VBA in a variety of applications. I have taught Excel to many people at work.

Physics

I received an A in physics and an A in AP physics in high school. I also got a 5 (the highest score) on both parts of the Physics C AP exam and an 800 (a perfect score) on the Physics SAT II exam. Because of this, I was exempted from all physics classes in college for my engineering degree. Though I took Modern Physics as an elective and received an A.

Visual Basic

My job since 2014 is developing applications with Excel/VBA for an insurance company. I have done freelance work developing in Excel/VBA. I used VBA for nearly a decade as an engineer.
