Boston College (International Studies)
I am a graduate of Boston College, where I studied International Studies, Mandarin Chinese, and Russian. With extensive tutoring experience at immigration organizations and adult education centers, I pride myself on a highly personal approach to learning, and look forward to getting to know you. My scores on the SAT helped me to receive a full scholarship to attend Boston College. Over the years, I have gained experience teaching math and English, both to newly arrived immigrants at a nonprofit and to adults at education centers across the country.
As an International Studies graduate from Boston College, I have a deep understanding of geography, international relations, and current affairs. Further, through grants from the university, I have firsthand research, travel, and work experience in Asia, Africa, Central America, and Europe.
With an extensive background in US, European, and World History, I am available for tutoring for all three AP history exams. Having scored a 5 on all three exams, as well as a 790 on the US History SAT Subject Test, I know the methods and tricks to help you achieve your goals for standardized history tests.
MANDARIN CHINESE AND RUSSIAN
With over 10 years of intensive study in Chinese, I have the skills to help beginner and intermediate students master the groundwork of learning this difficult language. In addition to travel and work experience in China and Singapore, I have also tutored Chinese immigrants in the U.S. and performed research in Chinese. I created Advanced Independent Tutorials at Boston College related to international affairs, Sino-US relations, and Classical Chinese literature.
At Boston College, I have studied Russian at the advanced level and can provide help to beginners who are learning Russian's tricky grammatical system.
As an American who has spent years studying (and sometimes struggling!) Mandarin Chinese and Russian, two of the world's most difficult languages, I know the challenges that accompany learning these languages as a nonnative speaker. INTRODUCTION

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

At Boston College, I have studied Russian at the advanced level, working in small classes to perfect the grammatical intricacies of the Russian language. I plan to tutor only beginning Russian students, using materials that I have used in my courses at Boston College.
