About Aaron

Ask me how my students have jumped from C's to A's in their language and English courses.

After studying abroad in France and Spain, Aaron began teaching as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for the French program at the University of Pittsburgh in 2005, where he received his first exposure to Second Language Acquisition pedagogy and methods. Since that time, he has taught elementary and intermediate Spanish and French languages and composition as a Graduate Student Instructor and Lecturer at the University of Michigan and the University of Pittsburgh. He began working as an independent tutor in New York City for students of all ages and levels in 2015. He tutors Spanish and French using a communicative method, which emphasizes exposure to the target language while allowing the use of English for clarification purposes.

Aaron completed his PhD in Spanish at U. Michigan in 2013, and was then appointed as a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow for a year to teach Spanish literature and Spanish film to advanced undergraduates in the Spanish major. At Columbia University, he was a Teaching Assistant in Film Studies in 2015, where he was responsible for discussing course readings, and work-shopping and grading undergraduate film essays. One of the most rewarding aspects of his academic career so far has been to see former students grow from second language learners to skilled and thoughtful writers, and beyond to become successful young professionals. Aaron’s approach to teaching writing and composition for humanities coursework is grounded in the fundamentals that teaching foreign languages has instilled in him. Close reading, proofreading exercises, and structured feedback, which draw attention to the use of language, produce strong writers.

When he is not teaching, tutoring, or writing, Aaron may be found enjoying New York City's vibrant film culture, seeing some theatre, or at the gym.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
