About Luke

Hello potential new students! I am a recent college graduate who has extensive experience tutoring for the SAT (all subject areas) with proven results! I have over thirty hours of tutoring experience with five different students, each of which tells me that they feel more comfortable with the SAT after working with me than after working with any other tutor. I also scored very well on the SAT myself and have a unique method of approaching the test that students find changes how they themselves approach the SAT's most challenging sections. The two things I love about tutoring are making students feel comfortable enough with me to make mistakes and that moment when students use one of my strategies to eliminate an answer choice or choose the correct answer. Helping students learn new ways to approach such a frustrating and tricky test is the most gratifying part of my job!

I scored a 730 on my SAT Math section and understand how to approach SAT Math questions in a way that helps non-math-brained people to answer them (I myself am not math-brained). I frequently approach math questions from a more logical than technical perspective that my students always appreciate and that teaches them to approach the test uniquely.

I scored an 800 on my SAT Reading and a 780 on my SAT Writing sections and consider writing and reading critically to be my strongest academic areas. I am adept at breaking down reading and writing sections into understandable parts, all while providing proven strategies that work to help students approach the test with a mind for reading comprehension. I also studied History in college and can help students with skimming strategies and quickly understanding the arguments of passages.

I also tutor English to second language speakers! I lived in Rome, Italy last year and privately tutored for ten hours/week for eight months. I have undergone extensive language training and conversational-teaching experience and have the patience and expertise to help ESL learners of all levels.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you might have! I am frequently checking my email and would be more than happy to get back to you as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
