About Henry

As a senior in high school, I tutored students one-on-one in calculus, physics, and SAT prep. In my second year of college, I taught middle school students advanced mathematical concepts in an enrichment course called the Young Scholars Program. I led small, weekly sessions which utilized hands-on and collaborative methods. Since September 2015, I've been privately tutoring math around New York City. The sum of these experiences has instilled me with a passion for teaching.

At the University of Chicago, I took courses in mathematics, theoretical physics, and computer science. I also researched algorithmic randomness, and I'm currently interested in studying mathematical models of cognition (in particular modern neural networks). Eventually, I plan on attending graduate school in computer science.

My teaching style is adaptive and interactive. I strongly believe that student engagement and experimentation is critical in fostering a rich understanding of quantitative concepts. As a first-generation college graduate, I also stress the importance of hard-work in achieving academic success.

If I sound like a good fit, get in touch and we'll schedule a session right away. Also, feel free to contact me if you have any questions :)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Science

I've been programming since 9th grade in various languages including Java, Python, C, Haskell, Scheme. As an undergraduate, I studied various branches of computer science including algorithms, complexity, computability, machine learning, systems, and quantum computing. I've also worked part-time as a web developer and designer. I've tutored AP Computer Science and was a TA for an intro programming course.

Logic

I've studied many logic courses in college. These include model theory, proof theory, and computability. I've also spent time researching algorithmic randomness and TAing some courses.

good tutor

My first meeting with Henry was very helpful. I am meeting with him again in two days, and expect at least one more meeting beyond that. I will be better positioned to comment in a few weeks when we have completed our work.
