Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with many students with ADD and ADHD in both one on one and group settings. It can be very challenging for these students to be able to accomplish all of their responsibilities in a timely manner but with proper graphic organizers, rituals and routines and relaxation techniques these students thrive.

Aspergers

I am a special education teacher. I work with many students on the spectrum in an isolated setting but also in a group setting to help acclimate them into the general education setting. For these students it is all about building a relationship and trust to help them develop better strategies to use in the real world.

College Counseling

I am a high school teacher and one of the leaders in the school's college mentoring program where a teacher is paired up with several students to help monitor them and support them throughout the college application process. This includes helping them narrow in on school options, writing college essays, filling out the application and financial aid forms and supporting the students in any way they need.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified to teach students with disabilities in grades K-12. I also have tutored many students in elementary and middle schools who struggle with basic reading, writing and math skills.

Handwriting

I am a special education teacher and work with students on a daily basis who struggle with writing conventions. I have meany successful tools and strategies that can help improve students handwriting.

Regents

I am a high school special education teacher who has extensive experience getting students reading for state wide exams. I have also been required to grade regents exams and understand the format of these tests including what content the student are required to know.

Religion

I attended a private, Catholic high school and know the general curriculum taught in NYC private schools as it pertains to religion. I also teach Global History and help students understand the origins of each religion and the impact they have had on history.

Social Studies

I am a Global History and American history teacher. Both are regents courses and I understand the important reading and writing components that are essential to understanding history.

Special Needs

I am a Special Education teacher in an ICT setting. I work in a classroom where there are both general education students, as well as, students with learning disibilities enabling me to have a unique understanding on how to keep students with learning difficulties on grade level. It is also part of my practice to provide these students with the proper tools so that they can become self-sufficient and independent learners in the world.

Study Skills

I have alot of experience as a teacher and a tutor helping students who need a little extra support in their academics. One of the biggest problems students face that hinders their success is that they are not organized and do not know how to prepare for these exams. In my opinion, these skills transcend tests and are important life skills as well. I have many methods and tools to help students strengthen their test taking, study and organizational skills.
