About Pamela

I am a graduate of Yale University with a degree in art history. I worked for more than thirty years as the editor of all the labels and text panels at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Since the museum has some seven million visitors a year, I am probably among the most widely read editors in the world! I have also owned my own freelance editorial business since the 1980s. My clients include prestigious museums and publishers, artists, curators, and authors, and I edit nonfiction and fiction titles ranging from esoteric artist monographs to children's books and resource materials for teachers. I work with some of the most famous artists and curators in the world and have devoted my life to the study of art of all periods and cultures.

Please get in touch if you need assistance editing papers, studying for an art history exam, improving your English grammar skills, or writing your own work. I am located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and have a lot of flexibility as far as scheduling our meeting. My turnaround time for editing projects is very fast. (I'm also a yoga teacher, if you are interested in yoga!)

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Art History

I graduated with honors from Yale University with a degree in art history. My area of expertise is Netherlandish painting, but I have devoted my career to the study of art of all periods and cultures. I worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for thirty years and have traveled far and wide, studying the art of many lands.

Art Theory

Beginning with my studies in art history as an undergraduate and Yale University and continuing through my career as an editor of art-related texts, I have gained a thorough knowledge of art theory.

English

I took numerous literature courses during my student days at Yale University and decided to pursue a career as an editor. My thirty plus years of experience have given me a superior understanding of the English language. One of my specialties as an editor is comparing English translations to their original sources (I can read French, Spanish, and German).

Grammar

I am especially skilled at English grammar, having been an editor for more than thirty years. My clients include some of the most prestigious museums and publishers of fiction and non-fiction in the world. For more than thirty years, I was the editor of all the labels and text panels at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where my work was read by about seven million visitors a year. My grammar skills had to be impeccable. I know the Chicago Manual of Style inside and out.

Proofreading

I have been working as an editor and a proofreader since 1981. I have my own editorial freelance business and service some of the most prestigious museums, curators, and publishers around the world. I not only edited but also proofread all the labels and texts panels for every exhibition and installation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for thirty years.

SAT Reading

I scored 800 on the reading Achievement Test and 770 on the reading section of the SAT. I have worked as a text editor for thirty years.

Vocabulary

As a high school student, I scored 800 on the English Achievement Test and on the SAT. I went to Yale University and became an editor upon graduation. My knowledge of vocabulary is impeccable.

Writing

I have worked as an editor and a writer for more than thirty years, mostly in the field of art but in fiction and other nonfiction subjects as well. Much of what an editor does is rewrite, so good writing becomes integral to success in the field.

Yoga

I have been a practicing yoga (both hatha and spiritual) for decades. In addition to my asana practice, I have extensive studio recording experience with the kirtan singer Krishna Das, who was nominated for a Grammy. I am familiar with the ancient yogic texts and have traveled in India studying esoteric Krishna devotional lineage dating back to the sixteenth century.
