About Sarah

I wasn't always a good student, I didn't have the insight on what was really required of me as a student and just did what was asked by my teachers in the best way I could. Then I thought that being a good student meant that you had to be able to memorize information and that the purpose was to get straight A's but I was missing the point - this didn't make me any more able or more intelligent. And then I thought, "I need to study harder." I stayed up many nights in order to produce the most impressive essay I could muster and hoped that the teacher would give me an A+. This failed. When I started my training as an instructor I realized that in order to learn any subject you need the right tools, you need to study with an intention and most importantly you need to be able to apply and produce the desired results. I've been instructing for over two years now and it has been very rewarding. I want to be able to pass this invaluable technology on to more students so that they can build the confidence to learn any subject and be able to be successful in applying.

I am an American who was born in the Dominican Republic. I speak Spanish and English fluently and have been teaching foreign students one-on-one for the last two years. I did a one year intensive training full-time at the Flag Service Organization in Clearwater Florida and have been trained in many tutoring techniques and innovative teaching solutions as well as indoctrinated into strict codes of conduct as an instructor. I am fully Certified as a Professional Course Supervisor and for the last two years I have been teaching classes of 20 at my Church to learners from ages 6 to 85. Many of these students were functionally illiterate and I have helped bring hundreds of these students through their courses. As a result, their test scores improved as did their literacy.

My training includes the spotting of very definite barriers to study along with applying their respective handling and finding the student's correct study gradient. I employ several methods of study which include reading aloud, procedures of defining meanings of misunderstood words, basic grammar and use various forms of demonstration to increase full conceptual understanding. I apply these tools until they are brought up to literacy and eventually, the student will be able to study comfortably with no further assistance because they will have learned to apply these basic tools on their own. Whenever there is any difficulty learning anything, it is only because the subject is started at too steep a gradient and for the lack of these basic tools.

The student will simply need to go over what their specific needs are with me via correspondence or in person so that I am able to design the right program for that student. The program will be very personalized and have an increasing gradient systematic approach.

I am a highly patient teacher who really gets satisfaction from seeing that "lightbulb moment" occur in a student, I've had many students change drastically right before my eyes. The results you can get from my instruction will result in your ability to apply that subject. The methods that I employ are perfect for special needs students since it is highly individualized and worked through until the student really gets it.

Learning is easy and stress-free given the right instructor. Why stress it? Contact the most effective tutoring in Midtown!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
