##### About Elyse

I am a Magna Cum Laude graduate of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where I concentrated in Management and Marketing and minored in French.

After graduating from Penn, I joined Teach For America as a secondary math teacher at Eastern University Academy Charter School in Philadelphia. Over the course of two years, I earned my M.S.Ed. in Urban Education from Penn's Graduate School of Education and a teaching certification in secondary mathematics.

As a Teach For America corps member, I had the privilege of helping 100+ students achieve academic success. I received the Teach For America Regional Transformational Teaching Award for my impact inside and outside of the classroom. For example, I did not just teach my students algebra so that they could pass the state test. Instead, I taught them algebra so that they could understand how to use numbers, analyze and comprehend formulas and graphs, and study how things change over time. I taught my students how to reason quantitatively and apply this skill beyond homework and exams.

For 2+ years after TFA, I worked as a product manager at a retailer technology startup based out of Build Grand Central. I am also an independent producer, with a focus on nonprofit and commercial theater.

I believe that all students can excel in mathematics. As a tutor, I ensure that my students master mathematical knowledge and skills in such a way that requires them to think critically, and not simply recall and repeat procedures. Teaching, tutoring, and mentoring are all collaborative processes between parents, students, and teachers. I work relentlessly with parents and students to ensure that students are reaching their goals at a pace that works best for them. My objective is to meet students where they are and strategically guide them to where they need to be academically.

I have a flexible schedule and can meet anywhere in Manhattan on most weekdays and weekends. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you to achieve your academic goals!
