About Max

I have had the pleasure of working with children in an academic capacity for five years. The last three years I have been working towards my Masters degree in school psychology at Columbia's Teachers College. I have had many years of experience with tutoring and homework help across all elementary ages.

Almost all of my experiences with teaching have revolved around educating elementary-aged students. My particular field of study also gives me greater insight into the unique way in which some children learn, especially those with learning or behavioral difficulties.

I take my personal health very seriously, and engage regularly in health-driven activities. The training I do is based on both research and years of experience as an active person.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am currently completing a masters degree in school psychology from Columbia University. A major component of my job includes understanding the cognitive functions of children with neurological disorders; this also includes understanding and implementing appropriate modifications to their learning environment. I've been able to successfully execute this both in an educational setting and in private tutoring sessions as well.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a number of years working with, and educating elementary-aged children. I began my career as a third grade teacher, before going on to complete my Masters degree in School Psychology from Columbia University (certified K-12). I am in the unique position of understanding not only the material children are required to learn, but having an expert understanding of how to differentiate how to teach it based on an individual students' needs.

Track & Field

I have been a runner my entire life; having competed on school track teams up through my senior year, as well as in private track events through US Track and Field program. I also worked along-side my father, who voluntarily runs a youth track team, which I also participated in as a child. I not only have experience in running events, but in field events as well, including the shot-put, long jump, and javelin; all of which I also competed in.
