About Zheng

I started tutoring Photography and English (as a second language) several years ago. And I began teaching at a university level ever since grad-school in the University of Washington. In UW I taught several photography classes (Art 140, Art 240, Art 339) that include both entry level and advanced level, and my students include both inexperienced freshmen and art-majored graduate students. I have had the pleasure of helping college students to meet their goals in photography, and have received numerous positive feedbacks from students. Closing to graduation, I was honorably nominated for the Parnassus Award for Teaching.

I specialize in the theories, techniques and processes of still photography as well as moving images with a digital camera. The course content will emphasize photography's potential for self-expression and creative problem solving in a contemporary context. I will make sure that students can have a comprehensive understanding of what digital photography is and how different subjects are approached in the realm of photography.

In terms of technical aspects, the process of digital photography will be introduced, including image capturing, post-productions, image exporting, etc. Students will be encouraged as well as being pushed a little to explore the potential of photography. I may give some challenging assignments and will provide critiques on students' work. Instead of saying nice things that is neither here nor there, I would directly point out issues that students need to keep working on.

I'm flexible with time, but I do hold a 24-hour cancellation policy. Makeup classes will be offered.

Due to the nature of photography, most classes will be held in public places during different time of the day.

I look forward to exploring the world of photography with you together!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Photography

I studied News and Magazine Photography in undergraduate, and received an MFA degree in Photography from the University of Washington. I have more than seven years of experience in digital photography and have been teaching photography in the School of Art in the University of Washington since 2014.
