I am a very experienced Portuguese teacher. I have taught Portuguese as a Second Language for a few decades both in Brazil and in the US. I have a true love for languages in general. I speak Portuguese, English, German, French, Spanish, and Hebrew. I thrive when I tutor and when I interact with people, be it one on one or in a group. I believe that the art of teaching foreign languages comprises different skills: true interest in the student’s well-being, creativity, communication and focus. A good teacher should always do his or her best to speak in the original language, should be passionate, inspiring, and fun, and last but not least, create a safe environment that enables the students to take risks and have confidence to speak and to express themselves freely.
During my career I have met people from many different parts of the world: Americans, Canadians, Swiss, Germans, French, South Africans, Japanese, Malaysians, Australians - you name it! Also, traveling around the world allowed me to experience other cultures. That and my knowledge of other languages helps me to communicate better with the students and to understand where they are coming from. My classes can be a rich combination of theoretical knowledge, practice and the exchange of life experiences that enable the students to feel supported and empowered to speak Portuguese in any given situation.
Please, feel free to contact me to learn more and to schedule lessons. Getting to know another culture is an extraordinary opportunity to learn more about ourselves. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have studied Hebrew for more than twenty years, both in the US and in Israel at Ulpan Akiva and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
