About David

I am extremely passionate about math and helping others make sense of its beautiful language. Although math can be confusing, I believe that anyone can grasp its concepts with the correct approach. I am currently a sophomore at the NYU Stern School of Business concentrating in actuarial science and finance, but I have been tutoring since high school.

Beginning my sophomore year of high school, I was assigned to tutor students struggling in algebra and geometry, helping several students improve their grades. In subsequent summers, I helped students learn the material necessary to place out of math classes, advancing to higher levels within our school.

My senior year, attending a high school that did not offer AP Calculus, I self-taught the entire course to myself, then held sessions to teach the material to 2 other classmates. We all scored 5s (the highest score) on the Calculus BC exam, having never taken an official course.

Coming from an area with relatively low SAT scores and no market for professional tutors, I also directed several informal study sessions for my friends and classmates. The group of five that I studied with achieved the highest scores in my school's history. I scored perfect 800s on the math section of the SAT, as well as on the Math II Subject Test.

In college, I have been the de facto dorm room tutor for Precalculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Statistics, and Microeconomics, but I am now looking to reach new students to tutor.

My academic pursuits are intense, but in person I come off as friendly and relaxed. I won't overwhelm, and my teaching style is flexible. I'll want to know what material you're interested in (or struggling with) ahead of time, and then help you advance from your current level. I'm just here to adapt to your needs, and help you make sense of all the jargon--I am a business student after all.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
