About Christine

I have always had a strong love of learning and consequently, developed a love of teaching as well. I believe that to fully understand a topic or concept, one should be able to teach it to others. I always make sure that I have a complete understanding of a topic before I try to teach it to my students.

Having graduated from Wellesley College with a liberal arts education, I'm well-versed in a variety of subjects. I can teach English grammar and I love explaining how grammar works. In addition, I can help students who are struggling with their writing at any stage of the process, whether it be brainstorming, constructing paragraphs, or editing. I am also able to teach SAT math, writing, and reading. I received a 2300 composite score on my SATs and am confident in my ability to help anyone looking to improve their chances to get into a top college or university.

In addition to providing support for academic coursework, I can also work with students who are looking for a personalized tutor seeking help in learning languages, specifically English and French. I have vast experience teaching languages to a foreign audience. For example, I spent five weeks in Japan in the summer of 2015 teaching high school girls about empowerment topics in English. I have also volunteered and taught English to foreigners at my local library and privately taught English to students at church.

In terms of my teaching style, I like to challenge my students and see how much progress they can make. I'm hard working, patient, but most importantly, I do not give up on my students. I am also a good listener and open to feedback, so you can always come to me with a question or advice.

If you are looking for a teacher who can guide you and target areas where you need help, feel free to contact me. I am flexible and will work with your needs. I am able to meet at your house or a coffee shop if you prefer. While I am flexible, I do appreciate your letting me know far in advance if you need to reschedule a session. Of course, if an emergency arises, I will understand. I look forward to meeting you and helping you grow as a student!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I am qualified to teach English because I majored in English in college. In addition, I have taught English to a variety of students ranging in ages from 8 to 45 years old.

Grammar

I have a very strong understanding of English grammar. Having studied English in college, I am a stickler for correct grammar and I even scored an 800 on my SAT writing section.

SAT Math

I scored an 800 on my SAT math section when I took it in high school. I have good strategies to help students not only understand the material but also perform well during a high stress environment.
