About Tara

My excitement for working with you is as one who would guide students in the understanding of the deliberate choices that they make as students. As a lover of stories, I want to bring my passion for integrated meaning to my students, but I want to couple it with a deep understanding of the way their own brains work.
I most recently completed coursework in learning and memory and it's been exciting to devise creative approaches to sometimes stale topics. I like to bring a "Freakonomics" approach to studying and coursework...discovering a hidden side to everything!

My undergraduate degree in Psychology from Northeastern University focused on both the hard sciences as well as philosophy and social sciences. I've received a A average in Introductory Biology I and II, Psychobiology, Cell Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, a wide range of psychology courses (Cognition, Biological Basis of Behavior, Personality Psychology, Memory and Learning are just a few to name). Throughout my college time I've also conducted neurobiological research at Harvard Medical School and Boston Medical Center.

I am very flexible with regard to scheduling tutoring sessions and I look forward to speaking with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

Currently, I teach pre-k and am studying for a multiple subject credential. Most recently, I completed coursework in the science of learning for k-12 students, constructive classroom conversations, writing for young readers as well as the foundations of teaching for learning. For early learners, my methods incorporate blended learning techniques, an amalgam of stories, development of critical thinking for young minds as well as Common Core standards.
