New York University
University of Oxford (Master's)
I'm originally from Hawaii but moved to New York City in 2009 to read a degree in Classics at NYU. In 2012, I studied at the Universität Heidelberg, in the Seminar für Alte Geschichte thanks to a fellowship at the Deutcher Akademischer Austaush Dienst. While there, I studied the early Roman Republic while also producing two theses: one on the Social War and another on the Cult of Isis, both written in German. I returned to NYU the following year and completed an honors thesis on Eastern influences in archaic Roman society. I was then fortunate enough to win an Ertegun Graduate Scholarship to Oxford, and earned a Master's degree in Roman History.
I majored in Latin and Greek during undergrad and have studied Latin for more than six years, at NYU and and at Oxford. I have studied German for just as long and received a DAAD fellowship to the Universität Heidelberg. I have extensive tutoring experience in both these languages.
I have considerable experience preparing students for the AP World history exam, while my knowledge of European history is broad and extensive. Further, I have developed excellent research skills, for which I have won numerous prizes.
Shoot me a message if you need help with a research paper, preparing for any history exam, or if you're struggling with Latin or German. I'm easygoing and lots of fun, so I'm sure your work won't feel tedious when I'm helping you with it. I look forward to hearing from you! I work on a sliding scale. If there are special circumstances or need for more frequent tutorials, I am happy to work out a rate that works for you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.A. in Latin and Greek from the New York University. I have taken six years of Latin in total, along with numerous courses on classics civilization. I have a master's degree in Roman History from Oxford.
I have stellar qualifications in English. My research at NYU and at Oxford required impeccable reading and writing skills, and my research has been published in part due to my facility with language.
