Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

MA in politics and education, Columbia University.

Bachelor's degree in political science

Classics

In the Spring of 2015, I obtained my master's degree in philosophy and education from Columbia University's Teacher's College. My coursework focused on the teaching and preservation of classic texts throughout the western tradition. Apart from my formal education, I spent a Summer teaching classics for Rutgers University's reading program.

College Counseling

Over the past year and a half, I have worked as an education and career adviser for a New York based high school equivalency program. My position requires that I meet with young people to discuss their next move after graduating high school. Thus, I have become very familiar with the college application/selection process.

Common Core

I am a member of the 27th NYC Teaching Fellows Cohort. I have participated in numerous training session focused on Common Core Curriculum. I am also pursuing a MAT in Special Education.

Political Science

I am currently enrolled as a doctoral student in Political Science at the CUNY Graduate Center. I have also completed my Bachelor's degree in Political Science. Apart from my formal academic credentials, I have spent a great deal of my life reading political journals and news.

Reading

Instructor for the Institute of Reading Development
Reading and Writing Teacher at Harlem Renaissance High School

SAT Reading

I scored In the ninetieth percentile on the GRE reading section and have significant experience in tutoring the SAT.

Study Skills

While I was in college, I worked for my university's orientation office, where I attended multiple staff development workshops on study skills. In my current role, I have also been tasked with the responsibility of teaching study skills to incoming GED students. Apart from my formal professional experience, I have significant personal experience studying for major standardized tests.
