About Luis

I've always enjoyed tutoring and I'm very passionate about education. I began tutoring back in high school with algebra, trigonometry and helping other kids with homework. Although my background is in Mechanical Engineering, I always loved coding and have been working as a software developer at Bloomberg LP for the past five (5) years. During this time, I have been able to mentor new team members and help them adjust technically and culturally to Bloomberg. This is something I very much enjoy and for that reason I'm also heavily involved with technical recruiting for the company, this also helps me stay up to date with requirements for top software opportunities.

Before Bloomberg, I attended The Cooper Union in NYC for both my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Engineering, have worked two (2) years in manufacturing at Energizer, and one and half years at the NYU Minimally-Invasive Lab as a research engineer. Currently I'm also a volunteer with FIRST Robotics helping a high school in Brooklyn with programming for the yearly competitions at the Javits Center.

My diverse professional and academic background combined with my abilities to mentor and work with kids put me in a good position to be a tutor to get you started with programming, even if it's not your career goal, it's a great tool to have.

C++ developer with professional experience as a financial software developer at Bloomberg LP for the past 5 years. Also heavily involved in technical recruiting for the company, so I'm up to date with current expectations for software opportunities. Have mentored many new team members both technically and career wise.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have, I'll do my best to reply promptly.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I've always had a passion for math, and have been tutoring since high school. I work as software developer and I'm constantly problem solving on a technical level. Also work with high school students in Brooklyn to stay active in my abilities to tutor and teach.

C++

For the last five years I've been working as a C++ Software Developer. I have always enjoyed tutoring, even in high school helping other students with homework.

Computer Programming

For the past four years I've been mentoring and tutoring high school students, in Brooklyn at George Westinghouse, in software development. I am a professional software developer.
