About Katherine

I am a current undergraduate student at Columbia University majoring in biomedical engineering with a minor in computer science. I love teaching because I like approaching a new problem in different ways and have a lot of patience in breaking down difficult concepts and problems in easier, simpler tasks. I look to tutoring because I actually enjoy it, and explaining concepts and problems help me understand them better as well as I'm always looking to learn new ideas. Whenever a student is confused or doesn't understand concepts, I am able to present the problem in a different light because I have a lot of experience with some of these same struggles.

I have a lot of mathematical experience and took Calculus 1 and 2 in high school as well as Multivariable Calculus. I also took AP Physics and AP Chemistry and interned at the Ohio State University Materials Science and Engineering Lab and BYRD Polar Chemistry Engineering Research Center. I have experience tutoring at my school in Calculus, Chemistry, and Physics in after-school programs, as well as helping the professors tutor younger students.

I worked the past summer on the app KKTalkee where I taught people the English language and customs. At Buddy Up, a tennis program for down-syndrome kids, I volunteered on the weekends to teach them tennis and and also have experience coaching older students at my tennis club. I have also taught aspiring musicians piano and musical theory. These programs have all taught me patience and a lot about how people learn new concepts and techniques.

I can help you with Algebra 1, Algebra 2, 36 ACT MATH, 800 SAT Math, Calculus I, II, Multivariable Calculus (Calc 3 and 4), Linear Algebra, AP Physics C: Mechanics and Electromagnetism, AP Chemistry.

Contact me for any help needed! I am pretty flexible with hours and am always looking to help people with problems!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Piano

I started piano when I was four years old and have more than 15 years of experience with music theory and piano technique and performance. I was awarded the Gold Medal in AADT's International Young Gifted Musicians Festival and invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York along with other various national and international prizes. I study currently at Columbia University and have experience teaching young adults piano at various music festivals in Master Classes as well as tutoring my piano professor's other students.

I met with Katherine to work on college Physics material and she was a great help. She not only understands the subject well but also is skilled in explaining and communicating the information, and was able to help me get over more than one conceptual hurdle that I had been struggling with. I highly recommend her.
