About Kate Moira

Currently I teach at New York Theater Workshop and the Young Playwrights Festival in NYC. I teach in person and remotely, beginning and advanced playwriting, comedy writing, adaptation (from public domain work), writing the one person show, and writing the one act/ten minute play. I have also taught at the Einhorn School of the Arts at Primary Stages.

I am a NYC based playwright. My work has been produced nationally and internationally. My recent work has been recognized with a GLAAD Award and published by Dramatists Play Service. In NYC my plays have had off-Broadway commercial production, and I have been published by Hyperion Press and nominated for the Quill Award.

I have been in the business over thirty years (I started with the Young Playwrights Festival) and believe that playwriting is a craft which can be taught. I adhere to the Freytag pyramid of structure and use the constructive Liz Lehrman method of criticism. I have a great sense of humor and love teaching. I can work on a new play or help you with one that you're trying to finish. After it is done, I will help you find the right theaters to submit your work.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
