About Dominique

I'm Dominique! I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology, and a minor in Psychology. In college, I realized the classes I appreciated most weren't necessarily the topics I was most interested in. Rather, it was the professors who made the classes enjoyable. These professors were always engaging and comprehensible when teaching the material in the classroom, and willing to go the extra mile when I asked for additional help or clarification. I try to bring this knowledge to my tutoring approach, and do everything I can to make learning a pleasant experience. I use lesson plans in which I usually introduce the topic in a fun and creative way, then explicitly teach the material. Afterwards I always ensure time for students to practice the material on their own. Of course, this method can be adjusted based on the subject and student's individual needs.

I have a year tutoring experience in a ninth grade Algebra 1 classroom. I worked directly with any students who needed additional assistance, but also had a small focus group of 5-10 students in each of my 6 classes. These were the students who needed the most extra help, so I worked with them during class to make sure they didn't fall behind. Additionally, I held tutoring sessions everyday after school where students could come for any homework help. In this setting I tutored not only in Algebra, but also Geometry, Biology, and English.

I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible, therefore welcome any resources or suggestions students or parents can provide. I am easy to reach and will always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I worked full time in an Algebra 1 classroom this past school year. My responsibilities included assisting students who needed additional clarification during the teacher's instruction, and conducting small-group sessions on my own. I also conducted tutoring and homework help four days a week after school.

Geometry

This past year I worked full time in a high school, specifically in a math classroom. I conducted homework help four days a week after school, which often included geometry students.

Sociology

Sociology was my major in college. I received my Bachelor of Arts in this subject and always did well in my classes. I graduated with a high GPA and with honors.
