About Ariel

Hello! My name is Ariel F. and I am a Columbia University PhD student studying organizational psychology. I have several years of experience working with students as they prepare for the GRE. I have worked as a Kaplan Test Prep instructor, leading classrooms of 25 students, and as a tutor, where I tailor my sessions to the individual needs of each and every student. Beyond working with Kaplan, I have worked extensively with private families, individual students, and international refugees as they prepare for the GRE. I additionally worked with many students this past fall and summer in preparation for applying to both masters and doctoral programs across the country. I am pleased (and proud!) to announce that several of them have earned admission to multiple programs to which they applied.

Before enrolling at Columbia I earned my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley (Go Bears!) and a masters degree in counseling psychology at NYU. As a result I have been able to help students deal with the mental aspects of studying, such as test anxiety, time management and instilling test day confidence.

Do you believe you're a "bad test-taker?" Do standardized tests make you anxious? I can teach you to think like the test.

It doesn't matter if you have yet to crack open your prep book or whether you're looking to iron out the final kinks just before test day--I can provide exactly what you need.

I typically meet my students at a nearby library. In addition, I have access to a private room that comes equipped with comfortable seating and a whiteboard. It is amazingly helpful to not only have a quiet space, but one that also serves as a mini classroom. My experience is that students have found this environment very conducive to their learning.

My resume and references are available upon request.
I have included a picture in my profile. I'm the one on the right.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Psychology

I am a senior PhD student of Social-Organizational Psychology at Columbia University. Our program examines how psychological concepts play out in the workplace. Some of our research questions include: "How do you motivate your employees?"; "What does effective leadership look like?" "What are effective conflict resolution strategies?" "How and why do stereotypes manifest in organizational contexts?" "What variables influence the ways in which teams can work collaboratively and effectively with one another?" My current research explores how diversity may influence an interracial coaching engagement.

Before enrolling at Columbia I earned a masters degree in Counseling Psychology at New York University.

I am also scheduled to begin serving as Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Barnard College in fall 2015.
