About Lauren

I graduated from the University of Florida in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering and have been tutoring since 2007. Currently working in Assistive Technology with ALS patients 9-5 and looking to tutor after work or on weekends. I have taught a variety of math subjects ranging from 5th grade mathematics through Calculus II. Additionally, I have tutored all seventh grade subjects. I have extensive background working with special needs kids- both in tutoring and growing up with my brother who has Autism. Outside of academic tutoring, I have been a dance teacher for 5.5 years for ages 3-25. I am great with kids and very passionate about tutoring. I believe what makes me a great tutor is my drive to go above and beyond the expectations of academic tutoring by teaching organizational and life skills to each student in order to help them gain confidence and be successful in their endeavors. Parents have said that my patience and calm demeanor relieved a lot of frustration and stress from their child's academic studies. I believe my creative problem-solving, patience, and communication skills serve as the foundation for funding success and connecting with each and every student. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

Many of my students have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. Additionally, I grew up with my brother who has Autism and ADHD. Parents have said that my patience, calm demeanor, and understanding eliminated a lot of stress and frustration for the student. I use creative problem-solving to help engage the student, like using timers for work and breaks. I have very realistic expectations and make sure to keep open communication with the student and parents so as to ensure that the student's frustration is being lessened and our expectations are remaining realistic.
