I have a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine. My greatest enjoyment is seeing kids that struggled in math and science go on to become confident contributors in the classroom. I am a gifted thinker, which allows me to come up with creative and tangible ways to distill complex information to students. I have tutored middle school, high school and college students for many years. In addition, I have mentored, trained, and taught medical and graduate students. Two of the high school students that I trained even became authors in an internationally acclaimed scientific journal.
For my students, I generally review their previous class material including homework, quizzes/exams, and textbooks. This allows me to pinpoint where the student struggles and gives me an opportunity to tailor ways to quickly review pertinent material needed for future success in the class. I also help students do well on standardized exams. I have a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Although I have a PhD in Neuroscience and performed biomedical research for many years, I have to admit that my first love was math. I tutored math for many years and helped students do well in the classroom and on standardized exams including ACT, SAT and GRE math. I am more than happy to make this a great learning experience and to share math-minded tricks so you can have fun acing the exam.
I firmly believe that everyone should have the chance to excel in math. Numerous studies indicate the strong correlation between excelling in math at a young age with greater opportunities and future success. In addition to pushing students that are already strong in math, I am gifted at turning students that struggle(d) in math into becoming confident, young mathematicians.
