About Alexandre

I am French, born and raised in Paris. A former videographer for the scientific community, I have a B.S. from Aix-Marseille II (Science) and an M.S. in Environment and Archaeology from Paris Nanterre (Paris 10).

I started teaching 10 years ago when I started a PhD at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. Sharing my French culture is a passion and I would love to help you turn your language learning from a struggle into a fun and enjoyable experience.

I teach conversationally and students learn grammatically correct language by practice rather than rules ; My style of teaching is based on French conversation dealing with diversified topics like currents events, popular culture, politics, economics, news, etc. I also help student to read and discuss French literature and newspaper/magazine articles and editorials. One of the aspects that we can discuss is the French context surrounding various events or works, so that you have a more comprehensive understanding of the different levels of meaning at play.

I enjoy 'designing' and preparing lesson plans for each session geared to address particular interests of the student. In order to do this, I meet with the student and/or the family (depending on the age of the student) to work together to plan a course of study. I think that a good teacher is a sum of pedagogy+psychology+method ; with pedagogy being the heart of the process.

As a teacher then a videographer I have always chased that passion to turn something which was supposed to be 'boring' into something 'fun.'

The first thing that I will ask is : Why do you want to learn or improve your French and what are you expecting from me ? Then I will develop an overall course of action based on the time available (how long sessions should continue) to complete a set objective (ex. getting caught up for a course, overall grade improvement, preparing for a specific exam, etc.) and those assumptions.

I am creative in my teaching. I use my videographer background (multimedia approach) to bring insight and originality to teaching students.

I tutor daytime and evenings and I also tutor online, which is great for anyone who's busy or would like to take classes late at night.

I love working with people and sharing this passion. I am energetic and patient and relate well to students of all levels and ages. I am creative in my teaching.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Fantastic! — Alexandre took time to find French newspaper articles on the things that interest me to work on my pronunciation and vocabulary. It is so lovely to have him come over to my apartment to speak french for an hour. Highly recommend for adults, teens, children--- great teaching method/lots of patience/ very kind. ...
