Westfield State University (History)
I completed my educational preparation at Westfield State University with a degree in History Secondary Education, and I am ready and eager to begin my career as an educator. Working in a school environment demands talent, aptitude and a keen work ethic; skills that I have honed as a student teacher while at The Springfield Renaissance School. Highlights of this experience included a mock legislative session and enhanced civic learning opportunities at exit polling stations throughout the city during the 2012 presidential election. This gave my students the ability to take on an active role in our political process even though many of them were not even old enough to vote.
During my student teaching experience at The Springfield Renaissance School, I collaborated with fellow teachers in professional development meetings. These meetings usually involved small workshops led by a content coach from each discipline. I especially enjoyed professional development because it helped me create effective lessons where learners of all levels could succeed. Working alongside fellow teachers in this setting gave me the support I needed to help my students achieve at a high level of academic proficiency. While student teaching, I integrated basic components of literacy into many of my lessons. I want to help my students see the natural connections between and across subject matters presented in their school curricula.
I am eager to begin working on behalf of the children of New York City and look forward to an opportunity to share my expertise. I am confident that I can offer skillful and creative learning opportunities and look forward to the prospect of a long and fruitful career as an educator. I appreciate your time and consideration and would be delighted to speak with you in the near future.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
