I am a recently retired English teacher and assistant principal with years of experience working with teenage students of all abilities and levels of motivation. From the moment I began teaching I loved helping students discover the smart and confident parts of themselves and build a repertoire of ways to express them. While I am an avid reader, I realize that comprehension and analysis is challenging for many students and I strive to help them read carefully and closely in order to make meaning and develop stronger literacy skills. Organizing ideas for thesis development and written papers are also skills students need support with and I have successfully guided many students through these processes.

My deep knowledge of school and teacher expectations allows me to help students produce high quality work that will satisfy these expectations while ensuring that they maintain their own ideas and perspectives. My students describe feeling empowered to develop and clarify their own ideas and to powerfully and coherently express them. I have recently worked with students to complete analytic and personal essays for English and research papers on a range of topics for social studies classes as well as prepare for exams in these same subjects. Nothing is more satisfying than sitting side-by-side with a student as he or she accepts challenges, develops confidence and produces great work!!
