I am an independent tutor and music teacher based in New York City. I am a graduate of Brown University in Providence, RI, where I majored in both North American and Middle Eastern history. I am also an alumnus of LREI, an independent k-12 school in downtown Manhattan and an institutional leader in progressive education. I offer a range of services as an academic tutor, including SAT and ACT preparation, ISEE preparation, and general academic enrichment in a number of subjects and disciplines.
I work one-on-one with students to develop a comprehensive, personalized study plan for specific exams or in individual subjects. I also offer a more integrated approach which covers multiple subjects. My regular hourly rate is $150. I also offer 2-hour lessons at a discounted rate of $250 and take a 20% rate deduction for regularly scheduled lessons.
I have experience playing on rec league, school teams including 4 years of high school varsity with 2 years as captain, and collegiate intramural leagues. I have coached children of various ages in one-on-one settings and team settings since I was in high school. I work with students to develop individualized approaches to fitness and nutrition, skills development, and team strategy to help them become effective players and teammates for whatever application they are interested in.
I have studied drums and percussion for over 14 years. My training includes jazz studies with renowned NYC drummer Vin Scialla, advanced performance and professional studies with Adam Issadore, and advanced studies with Paul Mason in Providence, RI. I have taught lessons to students of various ability from beginner to pre-professional for the past 9 years. In addition to my technical study, I also draw from an experiential background of nearly a decade playing in jazz bands, rock and blues bands, world/fusion groups, and musical theater/multimedia productions as well as directing music for shows produced at Brown University and producing independent concerts. I work with my students to create a customized curriculum of study which centers around performance in a students preferred style, musicianship, and theory.
I have nearly a decade of experience playing and teaching guitar to students of various levels in a wide range of styles. I draw on experience playing in groups, studying with renowned musicians and educators such as David Ullman, and using my experience as an academic tutor to help implement a successful approach to study and learning.
I have studied music for over 15 years as a performer, theorist, and historian. I have taken courses on the history of various periods and styles of music at both NYU and Brown University as well as auxiliary study at Columbia University Teacher's College as part of their jazz music camp, where I have been both a student and assistant counselor. I am familiar with a wide range of orchestral, chamber, and piano-based classical music as well as 20th century music including various eras of jazz, blues, rock, pop, classical minimalism, electronic, noise music, and world.
I have studied both darkroom and digital photography at the collegiate level and have worked professionally as an independent fine art photographer. I have won a young arts regional award for my work as a student.
I have participated as an actor in theatrical productions in elementary and high school as well as productions in college. I also have experience working with theater boards as a production member for various productions and have EP'd and Music Directed shows at Brown University. I have experience with musical theater, experimental and devised theater, textual analysis, character work, staging and movement and performance style.
I am the founder of a video production firm which works in commercial and art filmmaking. I have worked as an EP on projects which utilized digital film production. I have experience using FinalCut, Adobe Premiere, and iMovie to edit audio and video clips to create projects.
I have been a yoga practitioner for nearly five years. I was certified by the Yoga Alliance as an instructor at the 200-hour level in August of 2014 upon completion of the renowned teacher training program at Laughing Lotus studios in New York City. I have since taught classes at laughing lotus as well as individual and semi-private lessons to independent clients. I specialize in working with clients who have chronic injury, particularly former athletes and middle-aged and/or elderly people.
