My love of teaching began when I started studying French as a teenager. My mother’s first language is French so I was motivated to learn a second language early on. Later, I began to study Spanish and fell in love with the language. I know firsthand what it is to study another language as a young person and as an adult. Studying other languages opened many doors for me. That is why I am happy to work with my students and help them work toward achieving their goals.
I have a B.A. from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I graduated with a double major in Communications – Public Relations, and Business Administration. Several years ago, I completed a Certificate of Teaching English, and then went on to finish a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA TESOL) at The New School in New York, New York.
In addition to teaching, I work for a large television company as part of an international sales team. I have enjoyed working with many international clients. Working in the television industry fits nicely with many of my interests. I am a big fan of movies, television, young adult fiction, music, and art.
I love using authentic materials from popular culture sources such as short videos, audio clips, music, and a variety of reading texts. These multimedia lessons are integrated into lesson plans that address specific student needs. They might be focused on specific language functions, or designed to provide practice in one or more of the four skill areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. I also work on student’s specific needs in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
I am available to meet with students near Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, via Skype, or I we can meet in another location of your choosing. I look forward to hearing from you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
