About Lauren

Hi there! My name is Lauren, and I graduated with honors from NYU with a BA in fiction writing. I work as a professional copywriter, editor, and graphic designer. I plan to get an MFA in fiction in a few years.

I've been writing professionally since my freshman year in college, when I got my first copywriting gig. I've been copywriting and editing ever since. I'm a super nitpick when it comes to grammar. (Sorry.)

In college, I studied writing under novelist Zadie Smith, and studied independently with several other professors in NYU's creative writing department. Since graduation, I've built a freelance business doing author services—writing, editing, and design for published authors.

I graduated in 2014, and I've been tutoring college students ever since, so I have a pretty good sense of what professors want. I'm used to the college grind and the procrastination that goes with it, and I'm happy to help you get your papers from outline to final draft at the very last minute.

As an editor, I love helping people become better writers, so tutoring is a natural fit for me. Writing is a tricky thing—there isn't one right way to write an essay, which is why I find that using a writing tutor is helpful to anyone completing written assignments or creative work. In the past, I've tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in writing, and in the past few years I've started tutoring college students as well. I've also coached adults and other professional writers through their own writing projects. Right now, I'm most interested in helping out college students, and I'm happy to assist at any point in the process—from outline to edits.

Everyone learns differently, and so my approach is simple: I want to figure out what works best for you. I'm flexible and happy to help you determine what will be the most beneficial. I also very much like to have a good rapport with my students, because you're not going to learn anything from me if you're staring at your iPhone, waiting for our hour to expire. For so many people, writing is a painful process, but it so, so doesn't have to be.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have a BA in Writing from NYU, and have been a professional copywriter and editor for four years.

Proofreading

I have a BA in Writing from NYU, and have been a professional copywriter and editor for four years. As member and co-organizer of a local writing workshop, I also proofread the work of creative writers, looking for spelling and grammar mistakes.

Writing

In addition to my four years as a copywriter, I've taken several advanced creative writing courses at NYU, and was accepted into a master-level writing class with novelist Zadie Smith.

Lauren has helped me tremendously — I began working with Lauren last year, and for the first few months, we worked on my college poetry course. We read many poems together and discussed their meanings and the poet's intent. These discussions were very productive--she asked me questions that helped me develop an opinion of my own, then helped me organize them into a strong paper. I felt very comfortable with Lauren right from the sta ...
