About Carlos

I am a Classical Double Bassist and Entrepreneur. I have my training from the Manhattan School of Music, and am currently freelancing with various orchestras throughout the NY Metropolitan area. Current and former students are in prestigious programs (i.e. Manhattan School, McGill University, Montclair University) and orchestras (i.e. NJ All-State and Regional Orchestras, NJ Youth Symphony, NYYS, InterSchool Orchestras of NY).

Subjects: Private Bass Lessons, Beginning Piano, Music Theory, Music History.

I am also an entrepreneur, having received my BA in Sustainable Development Economics and Spanish Language & Culture from Columbia University. I undertake artistic projects and have recently formulated a musical ensemble. My background in managing budgets and people has developed a logical and communicative style to my teaching. I strive to collaborate with the student so as to foster a team effort in solving problems. This makes a student more involved and open to thinking critically, eventually increasing their independence of thought.

Subjects: Spanish, Elementary Math - Algebra, Environmental Science, Biology, American & European History, Social Studies & Study Skills.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Spanish

I studied Spanish Language and Culture at Columbia University. In this program, we read the course of Spanish Language texts, both historical and artistic; dove into the history of the Iberian Peninsula and its colonial offshoots (namely Latin America); and analyzed the language through a cultural lens so as to better understand and implement the usage of idiomatic expressions and individual words themselves.
