About Skylar

I am currently in graduate school at Weill Cornell. I graduated from the University of Miami in December, 2014--a semester early. I have an extensive writing background as a journalism major, writer for my university's newspaper, and recipient of a fellowship in journalism. I specialize in essay writing, for college essays and otherwise. I help students in all stages of their essay production from brainstorming ideas to synthesizing their thoughts and editing their work. I work to teach them how to structure papers most effectively, incorporate a writing style, and be original in their work. I have a solid understanding of what colleges are looking for in their applicants' essays, and can help synthesize a student's experiences in order to formulate a creative, thoughtful essay that will direct the student on the road to admission. Most of my students send me their college essay or paper that they have recently been assigned, and a few hours/days later (depending on the time restraints) I e-mail the paper back with edits and suggestions. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Swimming

I currently teach swimming lessons to beginners. My current students are children ages 3-12, so I am patient, encouraging, and make their lessons fun! I am confident in teaching all of the strokes (I was a competitive swimmer myself before college), and know how to effectively correct any mistakes.

Tennis

I was the captain of my high school tennis team and currently play tennis recreationally. I am comfortable giving beginner lessons (I taught tennis at a summer camp) as well as being a hitting partner.
