My name is Randy, and I'm passionate about learning. I think all areas of mathematics and science are extremely interesting and gratifying to learn, and I'm pursuing a double major in mathematics and physics at New York University (class of 2018). Prior to joining Wyzant, I have tutored both for commission and pro bono throughout my high school years, and I have accumulated about 100 hours of tutoring thus far. I have a deep understanding of these fields, and have been described as someone who can describe methods and problems in mathematics in many ways. I am flexible and want to help prospective students however suits them best. While I prefer to work from a specific text, if given prior notice, I can produce helpful study materials and textbooks that I have worked with in the past and found great success with (yes, I actually do have an opinion on what brand of Calculus textbook is the best!). I am a strong believer in the fundamentals of mathematics, and I believe that all true insights come from understanding higher level concepts in terms of these fundamentals. Inductive thinking is cumulative by nature, and thus problem solving in general rests on a firm grasp of the basics. Hi there!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I write code academically as part of a research inquiry into the motion of fluids in various situations and other PDEs. The project is primarily written in C, so I feel very comfortable with the language.

I completed a semester long class in this field at the University of Hartford covering the solution of seperable, exact, and linear differential equations up to degree two. The methods used for these varieties included seperation of variables, integration factors, characteristic equations and eigenvalues, euler type approximations, series based solutions, and Fourier transforms. I received an A in this class
I have taken and received an A in a college level Discrete Math course, and also served as a homework grader at NYU for said class in the past.
I have taken two courses in Linear Algebra, receiving A's in both courses, as well as extensively tutoring this specific branch of mathematics outside of class to various students. I am knowledgeable about the basics of an undergraduate linear algebra course and several advanced topics: matrix factorization methods, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, Banach spaces, least squares solutions, Hilbert spaces, Fourier analysis, basic iterative numerical methods, extensive applications in scientific computing, quantum mechanics, and the theory of linear PDEs.
Python is the first programming language that I learned, and I am very familiar with it. I have used it primarily for scientific computing, including computational number theory, numerical simulations of PDEs, and data visualization. I am familiar with many important packages, such as numpy, scipy, pillow, and matplotlib.
