About Danusia

I am an ex-Professor from San Diego who has recently relocated to NYC. I have been tutoring students for over 10 years. In California, I worked strictly from "word of mouth" with waiting lists up to 6 months in advance. All of my students jump 200-400 points on the SAT and approximately 3-6 points on the ACT.

My college entrance essays have earned students admission into the most select Ivy League schools and have been singled out as published examples by those schools.

My tutoring sessions are highly individualized. All subjects are primarily rule based, however, for a student to "crack the code" and truly understand the mechanics of a subject, I must learn how the student conceptualizes information. Therefore, I quickly develop a strategy for each student based on how they think. The student leaves with a new understanding of both the subject at hand and how to tackle other subjects which may cause them difficulty in the future.

I have two Master's Degrees, worked as a marketing and sales professional for a Fortune 500 company, taught at the University level for 5 years, and now tutor: ACT/SAT Test Prep and College Admission Essays/ Public Speaking, Writing (Research/Short Papers/Theses/Creative); Editing; Undergraduate/Graduate admissions essay writing; Political Science, and anything in Philosophy.

I prefer to work with high school students, college students, and business professionals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

My qualifications also stem from my tenure as a professor. I enjoy helping students of any age reach their full potentials. My office was a place where students often came for overall career advice and for laying out plans to complete long terms goals. Through word of mouth, I helped students who were in my classes and those I had never met. Students have contacted me years later to thank me for being an integral part of their future success. I have never given the same advice twice nor have I recommended identical career paths; I tailor each advice session to the personality, needs, and aptitude of the individual along with present and future market potentials.

College Counseling

As a former professor (5 years), I have counseled countless students. I have given repeated advice on courses, career tracks, future job markets, test taking strategies, skill assessments, and how to best navigate all of the aspects of college life. In addition, students often approached me for advice on various social situations and dilemmas. I have an aptitude for steering students of any age toward their long terms goals so that they use their skills and time strategically.

English

I am a former University Professor. I have helped hundreds of students improve their use of the English language. Reading well, using correct grammar, and writing effectively are skills that can be easily taught.

it is my system to teach the big picture when tutoring for English. My goal is to cement the mechanics of English so that any age student can fluidly adapt their own creative style to it.

If students develop an intuitive understanding of English, I believe that this will help them succeed in every aspect of modern life.

I strive to make learning fun, interactive, and meaningful. I develop clear lesson plans and reviews.

Government & Politics

I have two masters degrees in this area. I have taught political science/government at the university level: Politics & Theory, US Government, International Relations, Human Rights, Globalization, Conflict & Conflict Resolution, and Negotiation & Mediation.

From theory to complexities of current events, I thoroughly enjoy teaching Government & Politics at every student level. I am also a skilled writer and public speaker who can assist any student in these areas as well.

Grammar

As a professor, I have written and edited countless student papers as well as my own. I have taught hundreds of students the art of writing effectively and speaking persuasively.

Having earned two Master's Degrees in Philosphy and International Justice respectively, correct grammar and excellent proofreading skills come naturally. I strive to teach students how to "hear" good grammar in natural language so that they may read and write with increasing ease and skill.

Literature

As a former professor and avid reader of literature, I help students gain perspective on an author's life as well as his or her works. Understanding an author's style, motivations, and place in history helps the reader gain perspective on his or her work that cannot be known simply through a flat reading.

This simple technique helps my students to understand any work of literature and it helps them to remember both the author and the work's deeper meaning for many years.

Marketing

I currently work as a strategic social-marketing consultant for startup businesses. I help develop optimal website designs, assist in choosing the best SEO strategies, and often write the 3-6 month marketing component for business plans.

I have a degree in graphic design. In addition, I am particularly adept at strategic trend forecasting. In other words, I have a knack for choosing the most cost effective and powerful route to boost ones online business.

I have worked with one-man shows, small businesses, and accelerator capital groups.

Philosophy

I have a master's degree in philosophy. I have also taught political philosophy and theory at the university level. I am adept at teaching ancient Greek philosophy, philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, social ethics, and various schools of thought throughout history.

Political Science

I have taught political science at the university level for 5 years. I have taught US Government, Politics 101, International Relations, Conflict & Conflict Resolution, Globalization/future technologies, Human Rights, Negotiation & Mediation, and International Political Economy.

I am also well versed in real-time conflicts. I am particularly skilled at translating complex political events and structures so that they are easily understandable for any level of political thinker.

Proofreading

I am a former university professor who has served on various student thesis committees. I have been asked to proofread journal articles for my peers as well as provide commentary before publication.

I have edited countless student papers for grammatical accuracy and effective use of speech.

In addition, I have assisted students perfect their college application essays so that they are personal, dynamic, and interesting to read.

Lastly, I proofread and help write original copy for websites.

Public Speaking

I have given hundreds of speeches before classes of 10-300+ students. I have taught my students the art of public speaking within my globalization and negotiations classes.

I have strong empathy for those who are terrified of public speaking because I was once a full member of this club. Over the years, I have developed easy to learn strategies for any level of public speaker.

In addition, my sessions will not only allow anyone to get through a presentation with ease, but my system will make your future presentations memorable, interesting, and dynamic.

Reading

Having earned two Master's Degrees in Philosphy and International Justice respectively, correct grammar and excellent proofreading skills come naturally. I teach my students how to read comprehensively and write well under the pressure of exams and SAT/ACT testing.

SAT Writing

I am a former university professor who has helped many students overcome the difficulty of reading comprehensively and writing well under the pressure of exams and SAT/ACT testing.

I strive to teach students how to "hear" good grammar in natural language so that they may read and write with increasing ease and skill. This is especially useful under pressure when one must write quickly and powerfully.

I share several "tricks of the trade" in SAT writing. After learning the basic formula for SAT/ACT or exam writing, students will find it easy to write effectively on any subject (even those that they know little about).

Study Skills

I am a former professor who has completed two graduate degrees. I graduated at the top of my class while working full time and raising three excellent daughters.

I know how to expertly manage time effectively to produce the results I desire. I have counseled many students in time management, studying for comprehension and how to study the correct things for exam day.

I teach an easy system that will significantly help any student in the next step of their education.

I strive to make my sessions dynamic, interesting, and meaningful toward one's future goals.

Vocabulary

I am a former professor who has tutored many students in the art of using expanded vocabulary to improve writing and speaking skills.

I use fun techniques to help increase any person's databank of commonly used words. With just a few clever memory tricks, anyone can improve their vocabulary so that they are more respected writers, thinkers, and friends.

I teach students how to deduce the meaning of words that that they do not know by breaking off parts of that word and through the art of elimination. This technique is particularly useful for SAT/ACT and graduate exams.

Writing

I have taught hundreds of students the art of writing effectively and speaking persuasively. The best writers make it look so easy. Don't be fooled. Writing well is an art which requires creativity and practice. There are simple formulas for every type of writing.

I will reveal exactly what teachers look for in any paper on any subject. Hint: it is not what you may think!

I have tutored students with writing their MA Theses, research papers, undergraduate application essays, Medical School admission essays, and anything for grade school.

I love writing.
