About Erato

I am a specialized English language teacher who has graduated with a Master's degree from the University of Glasgow (TESOL certified) and a Bachelor's degree in English from the City University of New York. I am a native English speaker, born and raised in New York City, U.S.A. and will be delighted to help any student with learning English! I am patient and passionate when dealing with student's needs and have over seven years of experience in teaching English as a foreign language to various age groups and ethnicities.

The first session revolves around a quick and easy student assessment in reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, while determining their level, needs and interests. After this, the essential lesson plan is carefully developed based on their educational needs, as well as their interests. It is extremely crucial for me to know who my students are, this way I can incorporate their likes into my lesson plans and keep them interested in learning! Learning should be fun and definitely not boring!

I have extensive experience with speaking, listening, writing and reading skills and usually develop a lesson plan, incorporating all four of these skills; having worked in New York State and Florida State schools, I have worked with the Common Core system, testing and helped students build developmental study skills for test taking. I even have specialized lesson plans for adults which fulfill all daily needs such as, asking for directions, ordering, answering the phone and even regular daily conversation! I record the student's future goals and will do my best to make them possible in a matter of time!

Feel free to contact me with any questions and I will surely get back to you as soon as I see it! Hope I meet you soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

Spending time in New York City schools, as well as Florida charter schools, both states covered the common core structure of teaching and learning. Teachers were responsible to teach study skills, but not limited to reading and writing skills. Students were constantly challenged in the classroom and learned quick and easy skills in order to answer questions for state exam.

IELTS

I obtained a Master's in Education, English Second Language degree and have been tutoring students for approximately five years. Most of my students are English language learners and have succeeded in passing the IELTS with an outstanding score. I closely focus on the student's needs and try to encourage and motivate the student to try their best. Reviewing all four aspects of the language learning skills, reading, writing, listening and speaking, helps the student recycle critical information from previous lessons.

Study Skills

After teaching in New York State and Florida State, the common core was the main teaching structure, which students needed to learn; study skills was one of these skills, which needed to be taught. Students were placed in groups of four to five and they rotated around "centers" in the classroom, engaging with vocabulary, grammar, reading and writing centers; each of these centers gave them a time limit and students learned to work around this, in order to benefit them on the state test.
