I have been working as a SAT teacher and tutor with a large NYC test prep company for over two years. During the day, I work as an analyst/researcher at a public policy think tank/non partisan budget watchdog group. I enjoy tutoring for the SAT because it stands as such a laborious problem for so many students while ultimately it is completely beatable and, in my opinion, any score is achievable with the right focus, determination, and direction. Helping students achieve their goals, be they as small as understanding why one answer is incorrect or as large as a certain score on the test as a whole, is an absolute pleasure. I take pride in being able to help student's achieve their goals and move forward in their academic careers.
Philosophy wise, I believe the SAT, and standardized tests in general, are intended to be tricky and deceptive. In many cases, in fact most, students' struggles do not revolve around not understanding the material but rather center on these deceptive tactics. For this reason, I find "cracking" the SAT to be a relatively simple task once I can understand a student's thinking and where they are coming from. Obviously, I am also invested in and capable of reviewing or teaching topics for the first time if necessary.
I also tutor Macro and Micro economics, introductory and intermediate levels. I majored in Economics in college and plan on pursuing a PhD very soon. I currently work at an economic/fiscally focused think tank in New York City.
I believe my experience teaching and tutoring has made me an effective and worthy tutor. Please let me know if you have any questions or desire any references.

My daughter is a junior and David is her SAT tutor. Before starting her tutoring with David she was very worried about the exam. Now, she is more confident, less worried and getting better results.
David is able to answer all her questions in great detail so that she understands what she did wrong. He is very patient and does not rush through the material. Based on her performance, he assigns tasks in order to improve certain areas. His depth of understanding enables him to really help her focus on the specific concepts she needs to improve. His essay tips have helped my daughter a lot as well as his explanations in the math, reading and writing sections. Her confidence is up. David is a great tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated cum laude in economics and currently work as an economic consultant.
I tutored SAT Reading with the Princeton Review for over two years.
