Parsons the New School for Design (Fine Arts)
I graduated from one of the top public high schools in NYC where I began my tutoring career. I am currently a sophomore in college and tutoring in the New York City area.
The reason why my style of teaching has been proven more successful than others (based on significant improvement in students' test scores and their overall ATTITUDE toward the subject) is because I am young, enthusiastic, and compassionate. I understand the difficulties various students face based on my own RECENT experiences, and I know exactly how to approach them in fun and inventive ways that a KID can relate to. I am not a prestigious Harvard graduate who whizzed through school with straight A's. I know how it feels to struggle hopelessly with a subject, and I know how to get through it.
I specialize in geometry, however my knowledge extends to other areas of study such as elementary and middle school math, general writing, grammar, and beginner-level Spanish. I also offer to help students who have behavioral, mood, or attention issues -even if they just need motivation and support! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
After doing exceptionally well in my high school geometry course and receiving a 97 on the state Geometry Regents exam, I began helping kids achieve their goals to improve their grades and overcome their difficulties with geometry. I have a passion for math, but I have an even greater passion for helping my students realize that they are capable of conquering anything.
I attended NYC public schools grades K-12, and graduated high school with an advanced regents diploma. After receiving a 97 on the geometry regents, I began preparing students for their state exam. For the past two years I have tutored students in geometry and helped them achieve high scores on their geometry regents. I understand the structure of the test and know what skills are needed in order to ace it.
