I love to inspire students to achieve the success they envision. That is why you will look forward to our sessions. Inspiration makes learning English stimulating and fun. My tutoring background involves more than high academic achievement. It is also the result of lessons learned through life experience. I have taught a variety of subjects for the past two decades. When tutoring English I always focus on the mastery of the essential skills: reading, writing, grammar, proofreading, speaking and TOEFL prep. But it is also necessary to know how, when and where these skills should be employed. You cannot interview with an employer in the same way you converse with friend. The correct use of English for the appropriate situation is essential.

I tutor junior high, high school students, adults seeking a GED certificate, and newcomers to the US. After graduating from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Science degree and English Honors, I attended Hunter College to receive my teaching license, and earned my TESOL certificate from the Language Culture and Coaching Institute of New York. My varied employment background has included being the Editor-in-Chief of a newsletter, an award-winning writer in the fields of educational television, film and theater, a co-author of a book involving enhanced intelligence through nutrition, and a Regional Vice President of a corporation. I am most proud of becoming a guest lecturer at a number of institutions, including the United Nations.

Learning the rules of grammar -- even for native English speakers -- has always proved challenging. It involves memorization of rules, the repetition of exercises, and the knowledge of how to parse a sentence. But the one thing it rarely involves is having fun! My proven technique for learning correct grammar is to perceive it in everyday situations. Movie dialogue, TV news programs, newspaper headlines, magazine print advertisement, music lyrics -- whatever is interesting to my students and makes them curious. I cannot over-emphasize the power of curiosity when learning a language. It is the desire to learn and to know about the world around you. Toward this end I suggest my students carry their own personal notebooks. Its function is to record their pertinent impressions and questions about the world. This notebook becomes part of our lesson plan. In this way reading, writing, speaking and critical thinking are all integrated into a single session. Each session concludes with a written progress report summarizing what you have accomplished. This report is a collaboration between both of us -- the tutor and the student.

It is a written record of the continuous development that you will employ for the rest of your life.

Public Speaking

I am guest lecturer at a number of cultural institutions, including the United Nations. As a Corporate Vice President of a marketing company, I addressed large audiences around the country. I teach students of all ages ways to engage any audience persuasively by developing their in-born strengths. We all have speaking talents of which we are unaware. The first step is to discover them, The second is to build on them. The third is to succeed in front of any audience.
