Seton Hall University (English)
NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study (Master's)
As an ESL/English Language Arts Instructor, I like working with those who want to master the language, based on their individual needs. I specialize in teaching people how to use and master American English conversation, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and general comprehension skills in their daily lives. I love English, and enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for English with students who are eager to learn and open to creative teaching methods.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Seton Hall University with a Bachelor's Degree in English, and went on to pursue my Master's Degree in Travel and International Studies from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. After that, I decided to focus on helping non-native English speakers with my TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification, which I received in April 2005. I trained for several months in a private language school in Newark, New Jersey, and then moved to Indonesia for more than a year to teach English to students of all ages. As one of two native English speakers on staff at OSSC Laurensia School in Serpong-Tangerang, Indonesia, I was responsible for editing all of my colleagues' students' progress reports before distribution, the school's quarterly newsletter, and drafts of short plays written by other teachers before they were produced.
After returning to the United States, I worked in the publishing and international relocation industries. I have always worked with people from countries and cultures other than my own throughout my professional and academic careers, so I am very comfortable working with non-native English speakers. Since September 2013, I have focused on teaching ESL and English Language Arts to small classes and individuals in the New York City and Northern New Jersey areas, and I enjoy it very much.
The only thing I require from all of my students is to be open to using traditional, practical, and creative exercises to help them with their studies. Everyone is different when it comes to learning, so I like to develop individualized lesson plans tailored to each student's particular needs. I look forward to working with beginner, intermediate, and advanced English language learners in the New York City metropolitan area! As an ESL/English Language Arts Instructor, I like working with those who want to master the language, based on their individual needs. I specialize in teaching people how to use
My updated rates as of 2015 are as follows: $30 per hour for ESL lessons, and $35 per hour for American History and English. I have some flexibility with these rates, depending on the situation.
My tutor Pauline is patient and a good listener. She uses books and websites to help me with my English language studies. Pauline also gives me assignments to make me practice my speaking, reading, and writing skills, and helps me improve my English vocabulary. She is a reliable and friendly tutor, who is always available to me by email or phone if I have questions or concerns.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am very familiar with American history, because I constantly read about the subject using reliable texts and Internet resources. I also did well in American history when I was in high school and college. As an American history tutor, I will focus on specific events and time periods using source materials and examine relevant points in each, depending on the student's particular academic needs.
I have always loved English, and enjoy sharing my enthusiasm and knowledge of the language with others. In addition to creative writing, I have additional experience writing and editing business letters, emails, newsletters, blog posts, and magazine articles. As an English teacher, I always teach my students how to use correct grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary in their daily lives. I also work on strengthening my students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension skills.
I received my TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate in 2005, and taught ESL to students of all ages in Indonesia for one year. I have been teaching English to students from various countries and backgrounds in the New York City and New Jersey areas since September 2013.
In addition to my TESOL certification, I also possess a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with a Minor in Communications, which I received from Seton Hall University. I also have a Master's Degree in Travel and International Studies from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
