My name is Eric and I am currently a student at Columbia University, and I will graduate in December 2015. I also currently work full-time as the program coordinator for the Launch Learning K-8 program at Launch Math & Science Centers. Due to my schedule, right now Sunday is my only free day, but I can also help any day other than Monday or Thursday after 7 pm.
My main goal in working with students is to increase their motivation to learn. This is done through a variety of teaching tools I have gained both through working with students individually since November 2013 and working at Launch Math and Science Centers since 2014. It’s important for students to not only do well in their current courses, which is also covered if they are struggling, but also to engage in more interactive activities in order to help them better understand the concepts and encourage them to be more motivated to learn more outside of my sessions or their classes. Eric works really well with my 13 year old son. He is very patient and always make sure that my son understands the mathematical concepts, rather than having him just memorizing the problem.
I appreciate the feedback and I have had a wonderful time helping your son with his math work. I hope to continue working with him going forward!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played basketball throughout high school. When I did a postgraduate year of high school I was an assistant coach on the JV team and then at Duke I spent a year working 40 hours a week as a student manager under Coach K. I have continued to love and whenever possible play or teach the game.
