Einstein once said, “If you can’t teach it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself." I certainly don’t profess to be Einstein, but I do think the key to effective tutoring is being able to articulate difficult concepts in a simple manner.
I have a BS from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from NYU. During my career I held a number of technical positions: consulting engineer, technical sales engineer, sales manager, and product manager. I have tutored many students in both Math & Science, and I find it deeply rewarding. As a tutor I pride myself on my ability to marry exceptional technical skills with compassion and an engaging communication style.
My focus is teaching Algebra 1&2, Geometry, and SAT & ACT Test Prep for HS Students. I also work with many 7th & 8th Graders on Core Math skills and SSAT/ISEE/SHSAT Test Prep. In addition I help 6th Graders with test prep for the highly competitive Hunter Test. Every student is different, and I customize the lessons to match the student's needs. Selecting the right tutor is a difficult and very important decision. I am confident that I can not only improve the student's grasp of the math fundamentals, but also build the student's confidence.
Geographically, I live in Manhattan on the Upper Eastside; but during the summer I work with students in the Bridgehampton area.
I look forward to hearing from you. Einstein once said, “If you can’t teach it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself." I certainly don’t profess to be Einstein, but I do think the key to effective tutoring is being able to articulate difficult concepts in a simple manner.

I highly recommend Ed if your child is in need of some extra help. He has certainly made an impact on my daughter's math grades. He is patient with her and very helpful. He goes over any confusion she may have and also gives her the confidence to do problems on her own. My daughter thoroughly enjoys her lessons with Ed.
Ed was really nice and came to work on time. He also gave Hannah a lot of helpful tips on ACT. For example, he suggested that Hannah underline certain words of interest or pique when she reads a passage--that helped her find the definition of the word or the implications that the word suggested in the passage. Rachel, Hannah's sister, had Ed only twice, but could not continue due to her energy-sapping summer job. She said that Ed was a really good tutor.
Ed was extremely patient and was able to grasp which areas our son needed to be assisted on in order to prepare him for the Math portion of the SAT. After the completion of the allotted tutoring sessions, it left our son more confident and knowledgeable in the lessons that Ed had concentrated on teaching him.
Ed did a great job refreshing my daughter on the basic concepts of Algebra 1 and slowly working into an introduction to Algebra 2. He gave very clear simple instructions that were very helpful.
Good feedback to parent, clear and supportive of steady progress- looking forward to future sessions focusing on Algebra 2.
Ed has a great ability to articulate complicated equations into concise, easy to understand ways that our child can grasp immediately.
Ed is a wonderful tutor in the way he approaches each lesson. My son was not thrilled to have the tutoring sessions to begin with and Ed was so patient and kind with him. Ed made the lesson a fun lesson for my son in the way he taught him how to remember the key points. I highly recommend Ed as a tutor and I am so happy that we found someone we can work with.
I am so happy to have Ed back helping Teddy. Ed is helping Teddy prepare to take the SAT. He has provided excellent suggestions on what areas to review as well as provide key tips on study techniques.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The ISEE Test is a very difficult exam for students; however I have had excellent experience improving student's scores. I have a BS in Engineering from WPI and an MBA from NYU. My education in Engineering has given me a solid foundation in Math. My minor at WPI was American Literature; which has equipped me with the tools for the Verbal Reasoning and Reading Comprehension sections of the exam. I not only improve the student's core skills, but help develop a test taking strategy which includes time management.
