New York University (Economics)
Hi, I'm currently a Junior at NYU majoring in Economics (pre-med). For the past five years I have spent most of my time tutoring students in various subjects within the five boroughs. I find the need to have a tutor to be very important because in my opinion it is very hard to divulge all the information you are thrown in class and it is equally difficult to try it understand it by yourself. As a tutor, I strive to make sure every single one of my students are able to understand the material that they are having trouble with to the point where they can feel confident enough to tutor someone else that may be having the same troubles.
When it comes to specific subjects and test prep, I am familiar with a broad range of topics. I have the most experience tutoring for the Specialized High School Exam (SHSAT) and tutoring students who are interested in taking the ACT. I have also taught SAT Math and SAT reading before. For regents tutoring I have experience teaching Geometry, Algebra, Algebra 2, Biology, Chemistry, World history, and US History. I have personally taken the AP tests in World History, US History, Chemistry, and Calculus, and feel comfortable in tutoring in those subject areas. I also have experience in tutoring 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in both ELA and Math.
I believe a tutor's job does not limit itself to teaching but also to serve as a mentor. With that being said, I am more than happy to help students during both the high school process and the college process. I look forward to hearing from any prospective students and families! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received a 34 on the ACT math section. My method for teaching ACT math is based on time management and working quickly through the easy problems to create more time for the difficult questions at the end of the section.
Growing up in NYC, with its plethora of basketball courts, I played basketball every chance I got. I was the youngest player ever to play on my middle school basketball team in the Bronx. I have experience playing for Junior Knicks League, St. Mary's Rec League, 92nd Street Y League, and for AAU. I also played high school basketball for the Bronx High School of Science. If you need help with your game, I am more than happy to oblige.
I graduated with an Advanced Regents Diploma from Bronx Science, earning a minimum of 90 on the following Regents subjects: Integrated Algebra, Algebra 2/Trig, Biology/Living Environment, Chemistry, World History, US History, and English. Received an 88 on Physics Regents.
