Hi there! My name is Farnaz. As you can probably tell from my picture, I’m pretty friendly. I believe everything in life, including learning, is better with a positive and supportive attitude. Don’t you agree?
I am originally from beautiful Southern California. I earned my Bachelor’s in Literary Journalism from University of California, Irvine (UCI) in 2006. I moved to NYC five years ago to pursue my graduate studies. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University in 2011. I also take improv acting/comedy classes and perform at The Magnet Theater.
I am currently a college psychology professor in NYC. I love empowering others through knowledge. So, I have been teaching and tutoring for the past 10 years. My areas of expertise are primarily English, ESL, Writing, Communications, Public Speaking, and Psychology. I also specialize in admissions consulting and standardized test prep (TOEFL/SAT/ACT/GRE[Verbal]).
I have been fortunate to teach at three colleges, two writing centers, and one of the most prestigious test prep companies in NYC. I have also worked as a magazine columnist, on-camera host, marketing coordinator, and mental health public speaker. My unique background has given me the opportunity to work with individuals from many walks of life. I welcome students of all ages; as I have worked with children to senior citizens.
I prefer to tutor students at or near Columbia University. Although, I am also open to other arrangements.
My sessions are tailored to your specific needs. It is my personal mission to see you succeed and enjoy the learning process. Yes, you will make silly mistakes; probably many of them. Good! That means you are trying. It also means that you are one step closer to getting it right. Yay!
I look forward to working with you. Let's get started! Hi there! My name is Farnaz. As you can probably tell from my picture, I’m pretty friendly. I believe everything in life, including learning, is better with a positive and supportive attitude. Don’t you agree?

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
