I love helping people attain their goals, which is why I teach. I prefer to tutor because I always see the greatest results when I work with students One to One. Working One to One allows me to zero in on exactly what your individual strengths and weaknesses are, whether our work together is focused on grammar, accent modification, or building job-specific vocabulary. One to One also helps us build a relationship of trust and confidence, so essential to the learning process. Accent Modification will always be, for me, the most valuable coursework in my TESOL master's program, and it is a part of every lesson plan that I customize for each student. I will use every tool and skill I have, including my early background in the theater arts to help you improve your communication skills.
I have more than ten years of experience teaching classrooms from level One to Advanced in both general and vocational ESL in engineering, hospitality, and healthcare to name a few, as well as academic writing at two and four-year colleges in New York City.
Other skill sets include Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Photoshop. I love helping people attain their goals, which is why I teach. When students commit to a schedule of 4 hours per week for 6 weeks, the hourly rate will be reduced to $55 resulting in savings of $120 of the 6 week plan.
I was in NYC for some time and I am happy that I got the chance to work with Claire. She worked with me very patiently, especially on my pronunciation. After working with Claire I realized that my English started to become more American and clear. I will never forget how we worked on my pronunciation in front of the mirror! We also worked on my interview questions and Claire taught me a lot not only how to answer question but also how to act during interviews. But the best thing about her classes is music, which is one of her methods to work on pronunciation.
I am still in contact with Claire who is also a very good friend, a painter and a musician. I am sure you will love working with her!
And you will love her cat! I still miss Gibbs!
Clarie is a great tutor because she is really kind, and she does not hesitate to help her students. I recommend her as your tutor.
Claire is the first tutor I've had who really paid attention to my needs. Every class was interesting, different, never boring. We worked a lot on my pronunciation and general speaking skills which has helped me a great deal. Also Claire has a good sense of humor and a kind spirit that makes you want to come back. And her cat is the cutest one I've ever seen in my life! Highly recommend this tutor!
I was a Chilean living in NYC for work reasons. I was struggling a little with my English but Claire helped me a lot. She´s very punctual, cares a lot about their students and is always super prepared for the classes. She´s very meticulous and knows how to detect my weaknesses and work on them. I was truly glad with my improvement. Too bad I had to come back to my home country, I was getting really good at English.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
