I am a graduate of NYU and am currently working in a 4th grade general education classroom. I have experience teaching students one-on-one in math, reading and writing. I love to work closely with a single student and watch him or her grow; I have a good sense for what my students need both academically and personally. During my time at NYU, I studied education, drama, and American Sign Language. Teaching public speaking and performance skills is a strength of mine, which I have cultivated over years of personal study as well as teaching drama and dance to students of all ages. I currently teach American Sign Language to 3rd and 4th grade students once a week. So far, they have learned a great deal in a short amount of time, and I am incredibly proud of their achievements. ASL is a beautiful, logical language that can be a helpful, liberating medium of expression for many children. As a teacher, I strive to encourage and affirm my students, but I also hold them to high expectations. I feel that every child has the ability to succeed as long as they are willing to work hard and ask for help whenever they need it. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied Ballet for 3 years with a professional performer and choreographer. Later on, I studied Ballet for a semester at NYU. Currently I take classes in Ballet and Jazz at Steps on Broadway.
I minored in American Sign Language during my undergraduate career at New York University. I have also taken private tutoring sessions through the Sign Language Center in NYC. I have attended many Deaf culture events including tours, theatre, and ASL poetry nights.
I studied Educational Theatre at New York University, and I am certified to teach Drama ages PreK-12 in New York State. I have extensive experience as both a performer and a director/choreographer. I performed in the professional company at The Bucks County Playhouse for 4 years, and I performed in countless community theatre and school productions throughout high school and college. I directed and choreographed productions for performers ages 5-19; these productions included Disney's Aladdin Jr., Alice in Wonderland, and Beauty and the Beast.
